Katie Day Good grew up in a home teeming with music in Grand Rapids, Michigan. From her dad’s classical guitar to her mom’s Renaissance band, Katie was exposed to a variety of styles at an early age. She began piano lessons at age 6 and continued until she was thirteen, when she was inspired by artists such as Tori Amos, Elton John, Joni Mitchell and Cat Stevens to compose songs of her own. In search of adventure, she spent her sophomore year in Quito, Ecuador. Times were tough and pianos were scarce, so she took up the guitar. By her return to the US at age 16 she had written over 40 songs and began to perform. She formed a band with drummer Peter Muszkiewicz and blues guitarist Matt Young, whose previous collaborative projects include The Johnny-Come-Lately’s, The James Reeser Band, and Sweet Japonic. In May of 2003 Katie released her debut album, Box of Birds. Her second album, a solo project, will be released in September of 2004. She currently lives in Chicago. |
