Travis Dow
With a popular debut album under his belt, and a charting single with his band, Cal Hollow, Travis is equally at home writing straightforward pop melodies and country story-songs. A recent move from Nashville to Chicago finds him working with several artists & writers, including serving as guitarist/vocalist in piano-pop phenom Katie Todd’s band.
Originally from the San Francisco Bay Area, Travis has a Bachelor’s Degree in Theatre Arts from Humboldt State University, where he fronted several bands before creating Cal Hollow in San Francisco in 1997. The band’s first album, Two Bulb Twilight, on Jericho/Sire Records, was helmed by Grammy-winning Producer John Porter (The Smiths, B.B. King), and included the single “No Mercy”, which generated massive airplay both in the U.S. and abroad.
Winner of several songwriting contests, Travis further explored his country/folk roots while living in Nashville, appearing at the Folk Alliance Festival in Vancouver, Canada and a subsequent acoustic tour of the West Coast. Whether writing with acoustic or electric guitar in hand, he manages to merge honest, meaningful lyrics with everything from catchy, rootsy pop to traditional country ballads.
Debut album (with Cal Hollow), Two Bulb Twilight, was released in May ’99 and was produced by 4-time Grammy Award winner John Porter (The Smiths, B.B. King, Keb Mo’, Bonnie Raitt) on Jericho/Sire Records.
Appeared on Katie Todd’s Changing Faces album, produced by Blaise Barton (Liz Phair, Ike Reilly).
