One Star Hotel One Star Hotel (Stereo Field Recordings ***). I was late to discover this debut, produced by Mike "Slo-Mo" Brenner, which came out late last spring. My loss. Guitarist and singer Steve Yutzy-Burkey conveys torn-apartness without even trying, and on his most evocative pieces - "Gravity Can't Explain," the traveling song "Superheated Coils," the blow-by-blow "Love Scene Gone Wrong" - he brings a troubadour's sensitivity to reckless rock settings, transforming those overworked three chords into something almost magical again. Can't wait for the follow-up. | ||
