Drew Nelson has always had music in his blood. Even as a kid growing up in a religious home, he just had to be himself. Despite his parents' objections to "rock-n-roll" he still listened, hiding a transistor radio under his pillow and tuning in WLS from Chicago. Curious about the world beyond his rural hometown, Drew was quick to feed his need to travel. After high school he joined the Navy and with his acoustic guitar as his sidekick, he traveled through Spain, France, Turkey, Egypt, Greece, and Israel, meeting people and studying their way of life. He became a social sponge and found his nomadic lifestyle a great muse for his songwriting. Drew writes about everyday events that touch everyday people. "The need for love, hope, and acceptance are all interwoven into the fabric of our humanity," he says. "I want to touch that secret place in my songs." Drew's lyrical content - heartache, chance meetings with old friends, and the universal struggle about why we exist - is traditional folk. His performance - high energy, passionate, and tinged with anger - is all rock-n-roll. | |
