Seventy Two Others
The first band to grace the Ground Vinyl Records roster, Seventy Two Others is Jeremy Keen and Mike Reeb. The two were born in Houston and Chicago respectively and met at college in late 1999. Though stemming from very different backgrounds, Keen and Reeb soon found common ground in their love and respect for music, songwriting, and artists like Gillian Welch, Elliott Smith, and Wilco. Four years after their first album was released, Seventy Two Others just finished GVR's Hard to Find EP, currently available at live shows and www.GroundVinyl.com.
Keen and Reeb each play a variety of instruments, which keeps their albums interesting and makes their live performances unique. "Whether it's a bass line, drum part, guitar solo, whatever... we’ll usually figure it out," says Reeb. "Jeremy and I probably have more instruments than we need, but it's nice to know we're able to use them when we need to." While songs like 'Jessica' and 'Only Want You' feature piano and stronger drums on the Hard to Find EP, their audience might hear them perform the same songs with only two acoustic guitars and their voices. In many ways, a Seventy Two Others show displays a much more intimate and touching side of the band, and with the ability to switch instruments and keep their shows ever-changing, the band and their listeners have maintained their interest over the years.
Since '99, Seventy Two Others has played with many amazing musicians and bands, such as Denison Witmer, Miranda Stone, Viking Moses!, Tree by Leaf, Michael Heaton, Pete Krebs, Brad Yoder, Madison Greene, Sleeping at Last, and Switchfoot. You might catch them listening to The Beatles, Wilco, Bob Dylan, Ryan Adams, or Neil Young at any given moment. |
