Liz Bowater

There’s a hush in the room as she steps onto the stage. She opens her set with no clever introduction, only the sounds of an acoustic guitar and a single voice.

“Maybe tomorrow, when this day is a memory,
I will be different. I will be better.”

She is Liz Bowater and this may be the first time you have heard her, but it won’t be the last.

“Maybe I’ll wake up at my first alarm ring and
Rise with the dawning, fresh as the morning.”

Cincinnati resident Liz Bowater--at only 23 years old--has created both a solid solo performance and an arsenal of original music. In the past three years, she has independently released three EPs and one full-length album. She has been booked on the same bill as such world-renowned musicians as Bill Mallonee, Sufjan Stevens, and Denison Witmer and has built a growing fan-base and continuing relationships with other independent musicians in the Midwest. With plenty of new material begging to be released, a new full-length album is in the works for 2006.

“Maybe tomorrow I’ll open my eyes and
See the world’s beautiful and live as if it were so.
Maybe the best me will become the real me
And I will be different. I will be better.”

Liz Bowater has shown immense growth as a songwriter and her new EP--entitled Last Confession--ventures deeper into what she calls “the unveiling” of the human heart and soul and “our need and desire for, ultimately, redemption”. There is a brutal honesty in her songs, a vulnerability that is both captivating and heart-breaking. Liz Bowater has no stage persona or personal agenda, only songs that are presented much like a candid photograph or a hand-written letter. She is brave in her songwriting and without pretension in her performing; her music holds a wisdom born of truth-telling experience and wide-eyed observation.

“Maybe tomorrow, I’ll understand love and
Learn to be honest and live my life bravely.
Maybe redemption will re-write my story and
I will know freedom once and for all.”
