In a world defined by genres, Omaha, Nebraska’s Anonymous American is a true musical anomaly. Not hard rock, not indie, not country and not folk their music can only be categorized as rock and roll. The kind of music that exploded from cheap car stereos racing down main street and blasted out of transistor radios from a time now past. When you hear Anonymous American songs, you will swear you have known them all your life. With one foot firmly planted in the soils of American music and one ceaselessly moving forward, Anonymous American is a band to remember.

Formed in 2003 by the merging of two local bands, Anonymous American exploded onto the ever-growing Omaha music scene with a vengeance. In a city that has garnered national attention via the Saddle Creek Records roster, Anonymous American is determined to make their mark in music with a sound that combines the independent vibe, but is true to the Midwestern roots. This genre of music has been called everything from “Americana” to “Roots rock”. In the end, it is a combination of a well rounded musical sense of pop, twang, and classic angst: rock and roll.

Singer/songwriter Matt Whipkey formed the band after his previous project the Movies split ways. A rock band with roots appeal, The Movies got the attention of Omaha’s ears with live shows that literally got in the face of the listeners. Utilizing this momentum, Anonymous American continues to develop their live shows to near legendary proportions. Energetic and powerful, Whipkey sings with a passion and style that captures the audience and keeps them focused on the show. Not afraid to jump into the crowd and play to any innocent bystander, Whipkey makes every audience a genuine part of the show. Not just a showman, Whipkey’s masterful songwriting has earned the critical praise of such national counterparts as Ryan Adams.
