JD Duvall
The time is overdue for the breakout of JD Duvall, a singer/guitarist who is winning over audiences with his singular brand of mystic blues-rock. JD has performed everywhere from the trenches of NYC to the college campuses of Boston, captivating everyone with his moanin’-at-midnight vocals, shimmering slide guitar and percussive fingerstyle approach.
“Country blues slide guitar, India raga, pedal steel -- only JD Duvall could put these together and have it make perfect sense. ‘Love Love Love’ is the lead track from his new album, "Bathe In The Light." The Jersey City troubadour has travelled the world - from Africa to Săo Paulo to the Lousiana Bayou - and mastered the mixing of civilizations and color, sometimes all in the same song. Whether he is fingerpicking a mean-ass blues or romancing you with a sultry samba, JD Duvall creates a world of his very own in song.”
-MP3 Weekly, MEDIA MUSIC (www.mediamusicusa.com)
“dynamic…12-string playing with intriguing harmonics” ; “JD’s quasi-orchestral textures suggest Michael Hedges, his aggressive, motoric rhythms recall a young Leo Kottke.” --GUITAR PLAYER MAGAZINE
Not to be outdone in the vocal department, JD falls stylistically between a depraved Zeppelin and the rapturous shouts of an old Faces record. “Strange that it comes out that way,” JD responds. “My favorite singers are Howlin Wolf and Robert Johnson. But lately I’ve been dipping my hand into gospel—especially Sam Cooke’s early gospel period.”
Pick your poison. Acoustic or electric. Grace or savagery. It’s all here but know that JD’s already back in the lab, mixing various potions--- a little holy ghost plant, some black pepper and a dose of red fire opal. Whatever magic suits the mood…. |
