MariZen
The meaning of Zen. Zen is a Japanese school, of 12th-century Chinese origin, teaching that contemplation of one's essential nature to the exclusion of all else is the only way of achieving pure enlightenment
Every once in a while, a group will release an album with music that is so full of life, so full of energy and enthusiasm, that it just jumps out, grabs one’s ears, and won’t let go. Chicago’s Marizen are the latest band to pull off this impressive feat; indeed, Marizen doesn’t just play music--they assault it. Using an arsenal of loud, dirty guitars, rich, spidery bass lines, thundering percussion, and powerhouse vocals. Marizen’s brand of power-pop is like a charging freight train of sound, chugging along with an energy and dyanamicism that is impossible to resist.
Since forming in 2001, Marizen have twice been finalists in the Hard Rock Cafe Battle of the Bands, have become a regular live attraction in Chicago and beyond, and have released three critically acclaimed discs.
Now, entering their third year together, they have worked with noted producer DeWayne Barron (Matchbox 20, Roger Daltry) on their highly anticipated second full-length album, FIELD. The title evokes thoughts of a playing field, which is appropriate, for with this album, Marizen makes the jump from the minor to the major league. Certainly, the music on FIELD is their most accomplished, most enjoyable to date. |
