Todd Carey

Todd Carey is a 25 year old nationally touring singer/songwriter/guitarist and looping artist, who tours solo as well as with his recently formed acoustic/electric rock trio, The Todd Carey Band. Todd’s band features nationally renowned Chicago-based jazz drummer, Clyde Davis, and New York Session Bassist, Brahm Sharay.

Todd nationally released his latest record in January 2005 on Los Angeles based Indie Label, Kufala Recordings. Titled Revolving World, the album effectively showcases Todd’s heartfelt writing, seamless guitar work, and is wholly encompassed by honest, soulful, emotive energy. Revolving World has received glowing reviews in various media outlets such as Singer Magazine, Glide Magazine, Discoveringartists.com, Evolvingartist.com, and The Pioneer Press. The record is sold on I-Tunes, Awarestore.com, Amazon.com, Barnes & Noble.com, various Chicago/select market retail outlets, and directly from his label at www.kufala.com.

A powerful combination of sharp, melodic, emotive material, ferocious guitar chops, and visionary one-man-band looping, makes Todd Carey’s show feel like watching a tapestry painted right before your eyes. Todd’s live set ranges from organic, poignant, singer/songwriter material, to layering on-the-fly rhythms, beats, and vocal harmonies, creating a roaring orchestra of sonic nuances. Ultimately the delicate stylistic intricacies of the package deliver a spectrum of moods, which can ripple through an energetic crowd or stun them into silence. In an era where many artists are pigeonholed to a musical genre by their own limitations, Todd’s unique talent derives from his versatility, which opens all doors for style, composition, improvisation and creativity to flow out freely and seemingly effortlessly.

All things come full circle. This old adage certainly applies to Todd Carey’s musical path. He spent six years building himself as an established and thriving musician in the Los Angeles club circuit with his band and touring machines Telepathy, released a total four albums on the Kufala Recordings label, and has been aggressively touring the country since his latest release in January 2005. Since Todd’s move to Chicago in early ‘05, he’s already held 50+ coast-to-coast tour dates, performed on WGN’s Chicago Morning News, and is garnishing rave reviews in the press.

Todd’s notable history includes jam sessions with John Mayer and Ben Kweller. He also was invited to share the stage with critic favorites Jamie Cullum, Morphine, and Australia’s Jon Butler Trio, G.Love, The Samples, Ozomatli, Jurassic 5, Chuchito Valdez, members of Frank Zappa’s band, and Particle. Through national touring, Todd has had multiple headliners at House of Blues on both coasts, played The Great American Music Hall in San Francisco, held multiple residencies at distinguished LA clubs, like The Mint, The Viper Room and The Knitting Factory, and since his move to Chicago in Jan. 2005 has headlined some of the cities finest clubs.

In creating his premier solo album “Revolving World”, Todd combined the power and virtuosity of his band Telepathy, with a new simplicity and directness. Working with engineer Paul Du Grey (Tracy Chapman, Mike Gordon, Leo Keottke, Los Lobos), Todd produced a package of fun, soulful material, honed with meticulous production that feels undeniably honest and good. From the emotive rocker “Daydream”, to the Sublime style reggae of “Honest”, to the naked soul of “Photograph”, the album is an eclectic representation of Todd’s craft. Seasoned producer Jim Tullio (Los Lonely Boys, The Band, Staple Singers) lent his expertise on the sweet and sour “Sing Me Home”, and “2 Can Play.”

Todd Carey has made quite an impression on fans, critics and musicians alike. The buzz surrounding his current direction and album, “Revolving World” indicates that the sky is the limit for this diverse and energetic artist.
