Distance To Empty
The Bottleneck, in Lawrence Kansas-the club from which emerged Paw, Stick and Frogpond...host joint for Butthole Surfers, Burning Spear and Lucinda Williams- was also the first stage for Distance To Empty, an upbeat Lawrence indie rock band with a touch for three-part harmonies and eclectic instrumentation.
That was October 2002. One immediate result was a weekly gig at a brewpub in Lawrence. Within three months, radio stations in Lawrence and Kansas City were starting to spin them. D.T.E has a basic guitar-bass-drums-singer configuration with a mandolin or violin thrown in now and again. The demographic: 14-30 crowd and anyone else who wants to shake. They've shared stage with Midwest favorites Anything but Joey, Grasshopper Takeover, Apollo 13, Shaking Tree, The Architects and Abileen.
-Have sold almost 1,000 copies of their debut cd; released in April 2004 and outletted by Itunes, Amazon.com, Towerrecords.com, Cdbaby.com and D.T.E's online store
-SUMMER 2005 Midwest tour will cover Madison, Wisconsin to Austin, Texas
-Headlined Rock for Hope in April 2005, a benefit concert for Safe Home that drew in 1,400 spectators and raised over $7,000 for charity
-Finished "top 30" in online voting out of 2,000 bands competing for slots at Garagestock 2005, a national showcase in the Ozark Mountains
