Dyna is truly a global artist. She has lived and performed in three countries on three continents. Her native language is Portuguese; she began learning English at a young age, taught herself French, and also studied Spanish, Japanese and Italian. In college, Dyna was trained in acting and Asian culture. In addition to being a talented musician, she was an extra in a few French films and has quite an amazing voice. While growing up in Vitoria, Espirito Santo (a state of Brazil) she studied dance, painting and piano. A friend encouraged Dyna to try singing and the guitar. As soon as she had enough chords under her fingers, Dyna began to write her own songs. The first gig Dyna played was at the Brazilian Embassy in Paris. She was in acting school and began sitting in at jam sessions singing the music of Chico Buarque and Joao Gilberto. Eventually, she was asked to audition for pianist and composer Maury Buchala who was looking for someone who could confidently sing intricate melodies through a wide vocal range with incredible intonation. Dyna got the gig and it was with this ensemble that she returned to Brazil to perform in the city of Sao Paulo. With the drive to pursue her own music, Dyna left Mr. Buchala and began singing regularly at The Blue Note, Paris. As she continued to learn about the bossa nova style, her songwriting developed and a unique sound emerged. Her loves of bossa nova and American rock were mixing to create a new music with complex harmony, strong beautiful melodies and the raw energy of rock n' roll. Dyna began recording with La Plage Records and French singer/songwriter Nicolas Repak. Through Universal Jazz, Dyna met Mino Cinelu, a world-famous percussionist who has recorded with Miles Davis, Sting and Pat Metheny to name a few. Mino invited her to his home in New York to produce a new demo free of charge. With the help of this recording and a talent agent who was a regular at The Blue Note, Paris, Dyna was introduced to film star and French singer Patrick Bruel. Dyna and Mr. Bruel began collaborating with BMG to create a recording agreement, but Dyna realized the future of her music was in America not France. Since arriving in the United States, Dyna has been busy writing and recording. She has performed at Uncommon Ground, The Heartland Cafe, Starbucks and The House (DeKalb). She is currently accompanied by guitarist Jeremy Bieber. Dyna and Jeremy recently performed at the 8th Annual Jeff Buckley Tribute here at Uncommon Ground. |
