Purveyors of the "Memphis sound" have always escaped a simple definition, and Jimmy Davis is no exception to the rule. This versatile singer-songwriter, named "Premier Male Vocalist" five times by the Memphis Chapter of the National Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences, knows no boundaries when it comes to musical styles. Influences range from The Beatles to the Eagles, Johnny Cash and Gram Parsons to Jackson Browne. As a singer/guitarist, Davis fronted the Top 40-charting Jimmy Davis & Junction as well as renowned Memphis rockin'-country-bluegrass outfit The Riverbluff Clan. Both groups enjoyed national visibility. Junction's song "Kick The Wall" was in heavy MTV rotation during the late 1980s, and the RBC appeared in the award-winning independent film The Poor & Hungry, directed by Craig Brewer (Hustle and Flow), performing Davis' "Honeysuckle and Kudzu." Jimmy's songs have been recorded by Martina McBride, Restless Heart, Joy White, Johnny Rivers, as well as many other independent artists. He has also appeared as a backing vocalist on recordings by artists such as Johnny Lang, Keith Sykes, Iris DeMent, Cory Branan, the North Mississippi Allstars and the late Toy Caldwell. But it's Jimmy's solo efforts that truly reflect his unique musical viewpoint. Released in 2002, Jimmy Daddy's Acoustic Song List honors every style of music that Jimmy's ever approached. Critic Bill Ellis calls it "an unassuming triumph and as honest a record as you're likely to hear." These days, Jimmy is performing as a solo artist and focusing on material from his most recent collection of self-penned songs. Released in 2006, Campfire Songs paints a cohesive and evocative picture by bringing together songs written throughout Jimmy's career, from a teenager's USO stint in Germany to his last camping trip.
