Connection Art Chicago is a not-for-profit organization that provides free educational and therapeutic art programs for youth and families in underserved communities. Our mission is to strengthen identity, promote understanding and build community through art. Connection Arts creates programs that give voice to youth in Chicago's diverse communities. We utilize art to strengthen personal and cultural identity, to promote artistic, social and cultural exchange, and to build bridges across cultures and communities.

Connection Arts hosts an annual exhibition of artwork created by adult and youth artists in the Chicago area. The goal of the exhibit is to highlight the social and emotional needs of children living in Chicago today. We bring together artists of all ages representing many cultural backgrounds to present different perspectives on social issues in a non-threatening way. Our aim is to create a space where adult artists can support the needs of children while showcasing their own talent and individuality, and where our young people can feel safe, proud and heard.

Many of the children we work with through our summer and after-school programming come from immigrant families. As we are all aware, the story in recent news has been the politics surrounding immigration in the US. This issue has caused much debate around the country and here in Chicago. It has brought strain on families and communities city-wide, and a sense of confusion and fear in children that they do not understand and have difficulty expressing.

Our goal for this exhibit is to address the human needs that arise, to give voice to those who cannot be heard, and to share hope through story and art. Our intention is that this collection of work will bring attention to the people behind the issue and be a source of inspiration and hope for the youngest members of our community.
