This Isn’t Here

"Look at this world, I can’t believe that it’s still happening..
we must be doing something right".

As restorative as a cool, fresh waterfall, David Celia’s anticipated follow up album to Organica, This Isn’t Here, is here.

Growing up in the outskirts of Toronto, David started playing drums in his brother's band at age 10. The band was called "Vicious Cuts" and they played their first and last concert to a sold-out basement of kids from the street. He started on guitar at 13 and began playing in bars from age 17. This eventually led him through a 9-year jaunt with a high school band that finally toured across Canada(and broke-up upon homecoming), to a 3-year commitment with Invisible Inc., which played weekend headliners at some of Toronto's biggest clubs(Including the legendary Horseshoe Tavern). When the band's bass player moved to England, this band broke up and David discovered his own vision in the home studio with his debut, "Organica". To this date, he's toured the UK nine times and has since played his songs live for receptive audiences in Ireland, Germany, Belgium and France. A recent house concert he did in Lille, France was televised as the "first-ever house concert in that region". In Europe, Dave has notably played the London Bloomsbury Theatre, Brighton Corn Exchange and The Playhouse Theatre in Derry. In Canada, he's played concerts at Hillside Festival, Ottawa's Tulip Festival, and a CD release concert at CBC's Glenn Gould Studio, where he unveiled to an almost sold-out crowd, his most recent work, This Isn’t Here.

David's vision for This Isn’t Here was to record his newest songs in a live setting including collaborations with some of the country's greatest players. "An album recorded from the experience of constantly playing real live shows cannot be beat", says David.

This Isn’t Here effortlessly engages the listener with it’s whimsical harmonies, roots-pop and hints of folk. David’s classicism manages to, naturally and effortlessly, cross genres and ages. The album starts with "Evidently True", a ripping bluegrass, feel-good tune about daily routine and driving in our cars. From that he heads into a Wilco-esque tune(the single-"Best Thing Ever"), then into a Nashville Skyline-era Dylan sound with "Infinity". Songs about people who are Pricks("Cactus") and the title track reminding us that "This Isn't Here"(1 minute and 40 seconds, John Lennon-style, four part harmony) bring us to a mellow acoustic mood-point with "Speak To Me" and a solo guitar piece called "I Found You". A Steeler's Wheel sound emerges in the second half with "She's A Waterfall", then leads us to the surreal section of the record with "NYC" and "Plain To See"(features big piano endings and mellotron flutes from Strawberry Fields). Second last, a quirky number about finding your "Tear Duct" in the mirror one day, and then the inevitable closing song: an actual tear-jerker called "Brothers". Toddlers and Adults alike are charmed by this record. Lovers of Folk Music and fans of Pop Music –equally charmed.

This album speaks of what matters most, to most of us: love, hope, family, friends, "staying on your path", recognizing your blessings and heck, plain old fun.

Fellow tastemakers are impressed by his musician and craftsmanship, as is evidenced by friends & guests appearing on "This Isn’t Here," including Dave Clark’s Neil Young inspired drumming (Rheostatics,Gord Downie Band), Don Kerr (Ron Sexsmith), Joan Besen (Prairie Oyster),Jenny Mitchell on Banjo (Barmitzvah Brothers) and Bob Wiseman on Casio keyboard, the inspiration behind a track or two. Influences include The Beatles, Pink Floyd and Neil Young but ultimately, "This Isn’t Here" is 100 % David Celia-charming, whimsical, hopeful and optimistic..

Some recent quotes from the Media and Promoters:

"completely charmful..contemplative.wonderful atmosphere..you will like him immediately..like a warm embrace from a good friend" (rock e-zine, Berlin).
