sawgrass
sawgrass is the umbrella under which James Harris Moore and a rotating cast of friends play. Sometimes he plays alone, sometimes with a full band, sometimes with just a friend or two.
Micah Jones, Daniel Gerth, Julia Carruthers-Thorne, and Lixian Hantover have all joined James onstage at one point or the other. With the invaluable help of producer Rogers Masson, sawgrass finished recording their first album, "The Archipelago" in March of 2007. With much hope, the album will soon be available at sawgrass shows for the meanwhile until a label is found to give it a home.
Born and raised in Nashville, James Moore grew up playing music from a very young age. When he was little, he would fall asleep to the sound of his father, a singer songwriter named Hunter Moore, playing guitar. However, it wasnt until his second year in college, during a cold Chicago winter far from home that James started to write. Holed up in his room, James tried to fend off the sub zero temperatures and the isolation that accompanies it by writing songs to perform at a local acoustic night on campus. Inspired more by artists such as Elliott Smith, Denison Witmer, and Damien Jurado than the country music that pervades Nashville, James Moore synthesizes his influences and sketches narratives out over an often finger picked acoustic guitar. At the beginning of 2006, James took time off of school to live in Nashville and focus on his music. He started to record songs in his bedroom, which eventually became the Start and Finish EP. |
