GreenChoby
Not so long ago in a town not so far away, a young songwriter named Carolyn Green was living out her days as a solo artist. Without the support of other musicians, she was often alone with her burden of teaching the world through her music. Although a songwriter and self-taught guitarist since her high school days, the 22-year-old Carolyn was resigned to the fact that she would never be a band. Alas, not even brush-up classes at the Old Town School of Folk Music in Chicago could convince her there was hope for a better day.
Meanwhile, Mike Choby, a bassist and guitarist from Pittsburgh had moved to Chicago, sure that he had left his days of playing professional music behind. No more would he be a part of rock, reggae, or folk bands. He had become disenchanted with smoky bars and clubs and convinced that his years spent at DuQuesnes School of Music was a waste of time. All he wanted was to move on.
Fortunately for both of them and for us, Mike saw Carolyn Green perform one evening at a local coffeehouse. A new hope stirred in him. This was the kind of music he felt he could support. These were the kind of songs in which his instruments could find new life and purpose! And so, Carolyn and Mike began to play. In 1996, they produced together her first CD, Part of the Fabric Here. They followed it up with GreenChoby's Contentment and Big City.
By combining forces, Mike was able to add melodic basslines, guitar leads and harmony vocals to Carolyn's rhythm guitar and meaningful lyrics. Carolyn was likewise able to provide Mike the opportunity to be a part of a musical vision that made sense and to play his instruments with new joy. If you invite Carolyn and Mike to play for your venue, you will find two individuals whose unique gifts complement and support the other. You will sense a common vision, as both Mike and Carolyn have spent time working with the poor, the homeless, and drug-addicted in their neighborhood of Uptown, Chicago. You will hear the reality of those streets as they see them, and hear stories about people who have found hope in the midst of despair. Finally, you will be pleasantly surprised that Carolyn and Mike have an ability to sing about things that matter -- and they have fun doing it. |
