Zebulun
Zebulun was born in Marquette, Michigan on the shores of Lake Superior. The waters of that deepest and coldest lake allegorically fuel his emotionally charged music.
Music has been a lifelong commitment for Zebulun beginning at age two with piano, age six with violin, age nine with drums, and age twelve with guitar and so on. In the past three years he has performed with twelve different instruments on fifteen different recordings. Since releasing his first all solo cd in 1997, (and a follow-up in 1998) he devoted more time to performing anonymously in popular independent acts in Chicago and throughout the midwest, (one signed to a major label shortly after his departure). Afterwards, Zebulun performed improvised music exclusively. Recently, he began to re-sharpen his singing at informal open mics and as sideman with other folksinging/vocal postrock acts. With the release of “you were right, I was wrong” he proudly reintroduces his specific and important voice to modern music.
“you were right, I was wrong” is a collection of heartfelt, memorable songs that infuse influences from many genres (country, jazz, blues, rock). Owing as much to David Bowie as Bob Dylan, Zebulun employs complex elements of theatrical rock as well as simple whistleable melodies. The arrangements on “you were right, I was wrong” are dominated by Zebulun’s fascination with the dobro (or resonator guitar). He plays with a self taught three finger slide style throughout the CD. In person, Zebulun performs either as a solo, alternating with dobro and piano or with full band accompaniment.
