Kevin Gramm Art Show uncommon ground - Lakeview

Hang Date 4/18/16 Art Opening 4/27 6-8pm

My art contributes to me as a human and I feel it is my responsibility to express that. I believe it is a gift and that I have an obligation to share that gift in order to fulfill my spiritual survival.
My inspirations include hyperbole, polar opposition, landscape, and the motivation of all life to continue no matter how hard the struggle. I am inspired by mans’ propensity to self-destruct vs. the peace and harmony of nature.
I have never once met a dandelion that was willing to commit suicide.

Encaustic Art signifies to me a release of my inner self to a level of calmness. I live in my art world because, in my opinion, it mirrors life. Every day we learn. We can’t help it. In life or in class, we learn. In my world of Encaustic Art if I want to change the appearance of a piece, I can heat it and scrape it clean. There are rudimentary laws of life as well that we can metaphorically wipe away if we know how.
To me, encaustic art represents purity and boldness. I liken it to the impressiveness of an antique suit of armor. I can make my Encaustic Wax Art as smooth or as textured as I would like by using a variety of heating implements. I can make it as opaque or as translucent as I want. I encourage my viewer to see, smell and touch it. It is unique in the sense that once a hue is reduced or manipulated it is literally impossible to reproduce. The chemistry of the medium doesn’t allow it.

Encaustic medium (beeswax, damar resin, and paint pigment) is inherently brilliant and so, to me, is a carnival ride of color which allows me to use it to express emotion and combine it with abstract imagery.
I rely on the use symbolism, image and color in my art. As many believe, I feel color is the vehicle for emotional outlet. Some pigment I purchase ready mixed in damar resin or bees wax. A wide variety of colors are available. Some colors I hand mix with powdered pigment.
Whatever method I choose, the end result of using encaustic wax inevitably surpasses my objectives.
