Rob Reid - Afro-folk/Americana storyteller
World

Rob is a musical salad bowl in which influences from distant lands (Mali, India, Brazil) mix with influences from the distant past (classic jazz, doo-wop, Americana). The result is a unique and eclectic backdrop for his songs, which tell stories about real and fictional characters involved in such endeavors as riding public transit in West Africa, surviving lightning strikes, and holding up banks.

When performing live, Rob often uses a looping station to layer percussion, vocal harmonies, guitar, and kitchenware. Though lacking basic driving skills and completely devoid of road sense, Rob has brought his solo act out to well over a hundred shows at venues ranging from coffee shops to restaurants, and from farmers markets to neighborhood taverns. In December 2009, he completed his third solo album, The Principles of Crop Rotation, and is currently playing shows in Chicago, southeastern Wisconsin, and southern Michigan. This fall he joins Chris Darby’s national tour to play several shows in his native New England.

In addition to his solo work, Rob has also played as a percussionist and backing vocalist with various Chicago performers including The Hump Night Thumpers, Los Gringos Cantandos, Sherry Bondi, Populele, Erin Frisby, and Them Damn Kids.
