Paulinho Garcia & Julie Koidin CD release party for Dois no Choro's new

Born in Belo Horizonte, Paulinho composed, arranged, produced, and performed in Brazil until his arrival in the U.S. in 1979. In 1991 he founded his own band, Jazzmineiro, whose eponymous 1996 CD received excellent reviews in the Chicago Tribune, Jazziz magazine, and the Brazilian Music Review. rnrnApart from being the recipient of the "Best jazz entertainer" award for the year 2001 by the Chicago Music Awards, he tours the world extensively and has worked with some of Chicago's best musicians including saxophonist Greg Fishman, singer Grazyna Auguscik, flutist Julie Koidin, and Judy Roberts just to name a few.

A native of the Chicago area, Julie Koidin is a classically trained flutist, and has experience as a classical soloist, an orchestral and chamber musician, as well as a studio musician. In addition to classical music, Dr. Koidin has a keen interest in a little known genre in the U.S. - that of Brazilian choro music. Since 1995, she has been independently researching choro, and since 1997 she has been performing both classical and Brazilian genres throughout Brazil. These concerts include performances with legendary choro flutists Altamiro Carrilho, Andrea Ernest Dias, and Carlos Poyares. In July, 2000, she was the only American invited to perform with Altamiro Carrilho at the Teatro Municipal in São Paulo, in a gala concert celebrating his career.
