Las Guitarras de Espana presents: Flamenco Night w/ El Payo

Las Guitarras de EspaƱa is pleased to welcome two excellent ensembles to this series for 2009! Both Idilio (www.idiliomusic.com) and El Payo (www.myspace.com/elpayo) will be offering programs which provide alternative takes on Spanish classical and flamenco music and dance material. Please check the calendar each month the see which ensemble will be performing. Either way, expect to see quality flamenco performances on the last Saturday of every month at Uncommon Ground!!!

El Payo is a Rumba/Nuevo Flamenco-Fused group based in Chicago. Its members come from diverse ethnic backgrounds, hailing from countries such as Mexico, Ecuador, Columbia and the United States. Their distinct sound is influenced by a rich combination of rumbas, traditional and modern flamenco, as well Flamenco-fused original compositions. Their dynamic, soulful sound is usually accompanied by intense flamenco dance performances. The group opened up the prestigious 2005 and 2006 USA Flamenco Festival in Chicago. They have opened up for internationally know artists like Juan Carmona, Pitingo and Lila Downs. They have also appeared on ABC’s Chicagoing with Bill Campell. A few places they have performed at include Millenium Park's Pritzker Pavillion, The Chicago Art Museum's Auditorium, The Taste of Chicago, and the Hot Loft. The group is led by singer David Gonzalez, flamenco guitarists David Chiriboga, percussionist/drummer Raul Fernandez, dancer/percussionist Edwin Suarez and bass guitarist Tom Kimball.
