Michael Cameron


Michael Cameron founded uncommon ground with his wife Helen in 1991. Since that time, the two of them have been driving the farm to table movement gently encouraging guests & community to become more aware & involved in the good food movement. Today, you can find Michael running between greenstar brewing (the first certified organic brewery in Illinois) & uncommon ground Lakeview checking on tables, pouring beer & overseeing the uncommon ground mission.

Scott Brooker

General Manager - Edgewater

Scott Brooker grew up in Staten Island, New York and attended the Culinary Institute of America. He has since acquired an immense amount of experience in the service and hospitality industry by working in high-end establishments across the country. Most recently, he came to Uncommon Ground, wanting to be involved with a family owned and operated restaurant. When Scott is not managing the Uncommon Ground Edgewater Location (or dining there) he enjoys spending his time with his family, being outside and riding motorcycles.

brewmaster Martin Coad

Brewmaster & Beer Ambassador

Martin started brewing in 2006 with a kit purchased for him for Christmas, "It’s ironic when you discover something that you’re really passionate about, it’s hard to stay away!,” says Coad. He then spent all of his free time reading and perfecting the art of brewing beer at home. Shortly after, he decided to get into the brewing industry and started working for a local home brew store, Brew and Grow in Chicago. Martin learned all about brewing different styles, brewing theory and crafting different recipes while working along side Brew and Grow’s head brewer. Martin later became the Brewmaster for Hofbräuhaus Chicago. While at Hofbräu, he studied under the International Technical Director of brewing for Hofbräu München, becoming fluent in German brewing traditions and techniques. Martin opened up Greenstar Brewing at Uncommon Ground in July of 2014, and following the restaurant's ongoing commitment to sustainability, led the process to become certified organic. Greenstar is the first certified organic brewery in Illinois! 

Ashley Marie Downing

Music Program Director & Talent Buyer

Ashley is a creative, tenacious and resourceful young professional with a diverse background in communications, media, marketing and music. She is a music junkie that has been involved with the industry on a multitude of levels since she was a child. Ashley is motivated and passionate in her pursuit to follow her dreams by continuing a career in the industry, which led her to her position as Music Director & Talent Buyer at uncommon ground. Ashley remains connected to a vast, expansive network of people who, like herself, work continuously to make things happen and spread music to ears everywhere. 


Head Sound Engineer - Music Department

Eric Quigley has been apart of uncommon ground for nearly 6 years now. First, as a singer/songwriter who used to frequent the weekly open mic nights & play shows at uncommon ground. Now, as the host of the very same open mic and the sound tech who can be found regularly running most shows between the two locations. Eric is also still active as a solo artist, releasing new material & opening every open mic night with a tune. He is also the front-man of One More Moon, a heavier folk/rock band who can be found performing in and around Chicago. For Eric, uncommon ground has been instrumental in establishing a community for songwriters, friendships, & connections to Chicago’s music scene at large.

Chef Alex LaBounty

Chef de Cuisine

Chef Alex started with us uncommon ground Edgewater and now runs the kitchen at our  Lakeview location. He began as a sous chef & filled the vacancy of Chef de Cuisine when our previous chef moved away. Alex's passion for knowing all of his farmers has helped him utilize the ingredients grown on our rooftop farm. 

Mike Wrobel

Assistant GM & Beverage Manager

Mike joins uncommon ground - Edgewater after working at our Wrigleyville location for over a year and a half. Currently, you can find Mike concocting all sorts of amazing craft cocktails utilizing ingredients from our organic roof top farm  Mike was recently promoted to Assistant General Manager at our Edgewater location & runs the beverage program for both uncommon ground locations

Farmer Allison Glovak

Organic Roof Top Farm Director
Farmer Allison joined us the 2015 season as the Roof Top Farm Director. Allison worked last year at our Clark St organic sidewalk farm location. To learn more about what Farmer Allison is growing, come on by Saturday afternoons when she gives Roof Top Farm tours. She also hosts a FREE open house the First Friday of every month from 5pm-sundown. Farmer Allison is busy most days working with all of her urban agriculture interns, tending to the Roof Top Farm & harvesting organic goodies for both uncommon ground locations.
