A GIRL NAMED GENNY w/ Jessica Mindrum

  • Uncommon Ground (Lakeview) 3800 North Clark Street Chicago, IL, 60613 United States (map)

A Girl Named Genny is based in Rochester, NY. The band incorporates traditional folk instruments to produce a new sound that encompasses several genres and styles. Dynamic instrumentation and upbeat melodies drive this high energy Americana band, however, breaking down sets to create intimate tender moments is always a promise. Their self-titled EP was released April 29th 2017, and the group released their first full-length record in May 2018. They have played with acts such as Driftwood, Upstate Rubdown, PALEFACE, Aqueous, Dirty Blanket, Turkuaz, David Mayfield, Folkfaces, The Honey Smugglers, Aaron Lipp, and The Crooked North.

Chicago-Based singer-songwriter Jessica Mindrum combines elements of indie folk and slowcore in her melodic storytelling. Her voice complements her guitar’s reverb by being soft and easy on the ears. She confronts existential crises, heartache, and loneliness through deeply honest lyricism. She doesn’t hold back when posing questions rooted in the human condition which encourages listeners to do the same. Mindrum’s songs ring like endless thoughts that hover across our minds, but she dresses them up, and puts a tune to the sadness.
