Born on a freight train in the age of radio, Honey Cellar is a Chicago-based band with a warm folk rock sound rooted in three-part harmonies and original upbeat tunes.
Oku is the brainchild of singer/songwriter Alex Katsaropoulos originating from the poetic journal of Matsu Basho and other eastern concepts in the lyrics and imagery. It combines minimalist Americana writing with much more experimental ideas such as layers of harmonies, colorful samples, and dynamic use of drums.
In 2016, Alex began playing some smaller shows as Oku around Chicago but realized there was more work to be done. He then linked up with Chicago producer Jonathan Alvin, who's worked with bands such as The Hush Sound and Dr. Manhattan, and spent the next year writing and recording Oku’s first full-length album. With the album’s release quickly approaching, Alex is back out playing shows in the Chicago area ready to promote what has become an absolutely brilliant debut record.
