Tiny Shoulders, Ross Childs, Ryan Mannix, Higherwave - 6PM | $10

  • Uncommon Ground (EDGEWATER) 1401 W Devon Ave Chicago IL 60660 USA (map)

Tiny Shoulders is a folk duo based in Chicago, Il. and consists of Travis Cook (guitar, vocals) and Leigh Yenrick (vocals, percussion). They do not care for pigeons. They have big dreams, but such tiny shoulders.

Ross Creighton Childs came to the Windy City in 2013 from sweaty, sunny Houston, Texas. He has studied at iO, The Annoyance Theatre, and The Second City, and has used all that he has learned to become, in his words, “real good at make-em-ups”. He has been a member of the theatre company BYOTproductions for over 5 years, has toured the Midwest with the Murder Mystery Company since 2017, and recently performed his own one-man show, “Taste The Future." He thinks pears are jealous of apples, doesn't quite "get" pogo sticks, and idolizes Earthworm Jim. Also, he smells burnt toast. Anybody else smell that?

Ryan Mannix. Hailing from Chicago, Lunar Ticks aim to barrel through stylistic boundaries by recreating and expanding on roots music (rock, jazz, punk, country, funk, soul, world, bluegrass etc.), with a DIY ethic and a jovial attitude. The band is influenced by the innovative Alternative rock of Wilco and My Morning Jacket, with a healthy touch of improvisation and composition in the vein of Umphrey’s Mcgee and Phish. Along our travels we’ve had the pleasure of opening for Aqueous, Mungion, Mr. Blotto, Old Shoe, Aaron Kamm and the One Drops, Cornmeal, and members of Vulfpeck. We've also played Festivals all around the midwest, including Shoefest and back to back trips to Summer Camp Music Festival. Each show is a unique experience with diverse originals and covers, crowd interaction, and exploratory improvisation. The band and the audience play off each other, creating something that’s never happened before, and never will again.

Higherwave. One take, completely improvised. Nothing planned. That's how we all live; just feeling the energy and making up grooves, jams and songs. Led by Dave Asher (head Musical Director for the iO Theater), fully improvised piano, guitar, percussion, and back up vocals.
