Boy Maj w/ Stereo RV & Apres Pompeii - 7PM | $10

  • Uncommon Ground - Edgewater 1401 West Devon Avenue Chicago, IL, 60660 United States (map)

Producer, singer-songwriter Boy Maj is 100% pop through and through. A child of the late 90’s/ early 2000’s, his musical influences range from Justin Timberlake and Usher to Bruno Mars and Lauv. Upon first glance, his music can seem saccharine; but his lyrics carry a deeper message. Stories of lost love, break-ups and drunken nights are sprinkled into a bright, summery tone. Nothing is quite what it seems, but you’re guaranteed to have a good time. Based in Chicago, Boy Maj is positioned to steal the summer.

Stereo RV's sound is seductively plush with rich vocals that captivate through a slightly languid and poetic framework, authentically channeling art mined from the depths of blunt honesty and emotion. Myra Gleason, Stereo RV’s lead singer, has one of the most powerfully expressive voices you’ve ever heard. Her fervent vocals are backed by the guitar and extraordinary beat boxing abilities of her husband, Gabe. The duo has been thrilling audiences in their hometown of Portland since they began performing together six years ago. Myra’s singing and Gabe’s ability to mimic the sound of a full drum kit, make every live performance an other-worldly event.

Apres Pompeii is a project by Chicago-based, Pittsburgh native, Zachary Weiss. Weiss combines folk-influenced musicianship, poetic lyrics, and soaring melodies to create a dynamic and emotional journey with each album. Lead, the latest Apres Pompeii long playing release, is a bare-all examination of mental health and sexuality that is told through songs that are always moving and shifting beneath the surface.
