In the midst of touring with his duo project Son of Town Hall, David Berkeley has been busy writing and recording a batch of political songs that speak to our divided and troubled times. Releasing this November, "The Faded Red and Blue" comprises five profoundly moving and timely songs that we all need to hear. The collection addresses immigration, gun violence, suicide, the environment, and the fear that elected Trump. Rather than striking a tone of anger or preaching, though, Berkeley has found a voice that is unifying and even hopeful. "It's been a challenge to do more than just rage," Berkeley says. "But that's not why I write songs. I would have gone into politics, I suppose, if I wanted that. I want to try to find a way through this. I want to do more than just piss people off." Berkeley has found poetry in the madness, and the result is beautiful and brave.
