Donyae Asante w/ Rane Simons & theycallmericky - 8pm | $10

  • Uncommon Ground (LAKEVIEW) 3800 N Clark St Chicago United States (map)

Donyae Asante is an soul and pop artist from the south side of Chicago. Born to a gospel family, Donyae started singing at a very young age. With a musical theater background and experience on stages, like the Taste of Chicago and The Elbo Room, Donyae has made a name for himself in The Windy City. With his upcoming album, Donyae Asante, he hopes to follow in the footsteps of Frank Ocean and Sam Smith and be a soundtrack for the LGBT community.

Though originally born in Oak Park, Rane SImons mostly grew up in a small town in Southern Illinois called Makanda. That's also where he joined his first band with some friends from high school who convinced him to start learning guitar. Half of them ended up going to college in Champaign-Urbana where Rane joined a couple other bands and began developing a passion for singing and songwriting. On a train back to Chicago after seeing a total solar eclipse in his hometown of Makanda in August 2017, he met his girlfriend who has been a big source of inspiration for him to write, record, and produce my first EP. I'm happy to say that I released Synchronicities exactly a year later!

I am a 23 year old rapper from the southwest side of chicago. Began writing at the age of 12 with influences spanning multiple genres. The music I make often is self-reflective. A lot of what i write is honest emotions and feelings that I share in hopes to connect with others who may feel the same.
