THE DEAD SHAKERS (solo) w/ Savanna (of Elk Walking) and Oku - 8PM | $8

  • Uncommon Ground (Lakeview) 3800 North Clark Street Chicago, IL, 60613 United States (map)

The Dead Shakers are a psych rock band from Vermont led by Kevin Bloom. Their debut album, All Circles Vanish, will be released on July 27.

“All Circles Vanish took me three years to write, and six studios in two states to record. It’s me on tape. It’s the people I’ve been lucky enough to cross paths with. It’s a ghost story and my childhood.”

Kevin Bloom will be performing All Circles Vanish solo on The Dead Shakers 2018 summer tour.

Chicago based singer-songwriter Savanna Dickhut, often compared to a young Sheryl Crow, merges together folky, story driven tunes with pop hooks and vocals to create her own, unique blend of sounds. Breaking away from her solo work to form duo-fronted rock band Elk Walking with Julian Daniell in 2015, she has yet to record or release any of her music apart from the group but will play a set of her unreleased material on occasion, at select venues around the city. Marinating on these songs for sometime now and still developing her solo sound, she hopes to release them at some point in the not so distant future. For the time being, check out a rough, self-recorded demo on her SoundCloud; “Pink Carnation/Dandelion song” and the new Elk Walking single, “Ride the Tide,” available on all streaming platforms.

Oku is the brainchild of singer/songwriter Alex Katsaropoulos originating from the poetic journal of Matsu Basho and other eastern concepts in the lyrics and imagery. It combines minimalist Americana writing with much more experimental ideas such as layers of harmonies, colorful samples, and dynamic use of drums.

In 2016, Alex began playing some smaller shows as Oku around Chicago but realized there was more work to be done. He then linked up with Chicago producer Jonathan Alvin, who's worked with bands such as The Hush Sound and Dr. Manhattan, and spent the next year writing and recording Oku’s first full-length album. With the album’s release quickly approaching, Alex is back out playing shows in the Chicago area ready to promote what has become an absolutely brilliant debut record.
