Uncommon Ground has had a focus on music and live art events since it first opened as a little coffee house in 1991. Our performance program includes live shows 7 nights a week at both locations! The goal from the very beginning, was to be ground zero for emerging local & national touring artists each night. Owner Michael Cameron booked all of the entertainment from 1991 until 2007 & still oversees the music program with our full time Music Director, Ashley Marie Downing.
We host one of the best open mics in the country every Monday & Tuesday nights which are both generously sponsored by Shure Microphones & greenstar organic brewery. Many of our talented nightly performers have gone on to critical acclaim. With uncommon ground's international reputation, you never know who you might catch in our intimate acoustic listening rooms.
On a snowy night in February of 1994, Jeff Buckley played a legendary set at Uncommon Ground. This performance was lauded “Best Concert of the Year” by Greg Kot of the Chicago Tribune, and was recently recalled by Mr. Kot as one of the best concerts he’s ever attended.
In 2018, we hosted our 20th annual Jeff Buckley Tribute Concerts. The two day event is held each November in honor of Jeff's birthday and features a wide variety of musicians coming together to celebrate Jeff's life, his legacy and his music. Proceeds from these events are donated to The Old Town School of Folk Music's scholarship fund. By being a part of this event, you are supporting the next generation of artists.
