Spells and Curses, J. Lincoln, Midwest Palm Tree

After losing a parent, ending a relationship and leaving unhealthy friend circles all within a few months, theRave was forced to start a new chapter in life by exercising unfamiliar feelings of love and loss: so he turned to music and formed Spells and Curses.

But it was the loss of a family member to suicide that gave his work a focused purpose; to prove that despite our past trauma, surviving and making a better life is the ultimate revenge. Spells and Curses attempt this by creating music to explore one's "inner space", with songs that act as a “spell” to enhance the moment, or a “curse” to damn it.

Since then, the mission has been to inspire those looking to free themselves from toxic and traumatic environments. To empower people whose attempts at improving their lives are met with resistance or negativity. To show anyone that the venom of opposition can be turned into the basis of courage. This focus on love, hate, vitriol, and freedom has been the tenet of Spells and Curses’ entire output; as seen through self-produced albums (such as SUADADE and Sinful Things), to currently releasing a new song and music video every 2 months.

Riley Martin Jazz Quartet

Riley Martin is a jazz guitarist originally from San Jose, California, now based in Chicago. His playing blends the swing and soul of the jazz tradition with a contemporary edge, shaped by early influences ranging from classical and bossa nova to funk, hip-hop, and Motown. Though he first picked up the guitar through rock and fusion, his musical path shifted dramatically after joining his high school jazz band—an experience that introduced him to the transformative power of improvisation.

Riley is the great-nephew of Walter “Fats” Pichon, the legendary New Orleans pianist and bandleader, whose legacy instilled in him a deep connection to the history and spirit of Black American music.

After earning his degree from Roosevelt University, where he studied under jazz guitar great Henry Johnson, Riley has continued to explore the lineage of players like Wes Montgomery and George Benson while carving out his own distinct voice. His mission as a musician extends beyond performance—he is deeply committed to passing on this living tradition through education, mentorship, and a profound respect for jazz’s cultural roots.

Chris Rawlins and Marian Runk

When you listen to Chris Rawlins it comes as no surprise that he was first a poet before he was a songwriter. The lyrics draw you right into his world of Midwestern landscapes, childhood homes, cities full of shadows, past lovers and dreamlike memories around every turn.

Then you start to pay attention to his relaxed, smooth vocal delivery. His voice is quiet and humble, yet confident, and will ease all the tension around you— and could ease you to sleep if you weren’t so captivated at every word. “Listen carefully, look out for the detail, let the words soothe you, and let the music amaze you” as Americana UK put it after hearing Rawlins’ debut album.

Chris Rawlins was born in Kalamazoo, MI and currently lives in Chicago, IL. He released a debut album in 2019 called Bring on the Rain, recorded and produced with the help of Old Town School of Folk Music songwriter, teacher, and producer, Steve Dawson. Americana UK called the work “a rich and unforgettable first album,” and Divide and Conquer Music states that “Rawlins’ first album is timeless, genre bending, and beautiful. No doubt Rawlins will strum the heartstrings of listeners and become an industry name in to time.”

Dallas-born, Chicago-based Marian Runk’s life-long fascination with storytelling evolved from book arts and comics to songwriting and performing. Her second album, Two Wires and a Spark, is filled with powerful imagery shaped by this diverse artistic background. Her lyrics explore loneliness, (mis)communication, grief, living alongside addiction, and road trips through the U.S. Her songs have been described as "honestly and humorously reflecting the ambiguities of being a fallible human." Sonically in the vein of Karen Dalton & Gillian Welch, Marian sings with wry wit and a clear voice.

Ben Reneer is a self-produced indie-folk singer/songwriter who loves almond butter very much. He grew up in Utah, and currently resides in Phoenix, AZ. His childhood influences include Peter Gabriel, Coldplay, and Pete Yorn. More recently he’s been drawn to the delicate songwriting of Donovan Woods and Gregory Alan Isakov. Ben’s mom forced him to take piano lessons as a kid – which Ben violently resisted. But her persistence paid off – he may have won some battles, but she won the war. Ben worked as an industrial designer after attending college, but now applies his technical and creative mindset to his songwriting and music production. A few T.V. shows have taken note of Ben’s melancholy folk sound. His songs “27 Years”, “Swallow”, and “Off My Mind” have accompanied significant moments in Showtime’s Shameless and ABC’s The Good Doctor. Haunted Like Human

Haunted Like Human

Mythology evokes images of gods, titans, demons, and beasts of every kind. Yet, it’s the spark of humanity that keeps us telling and retelling myths. It’s these stories of seduction, inheritance, and hubris that Nashville-based folk duo Haunted Like Human rekindle in the 14 songs on their third album American Mythology. Since the release of 2021’s Tall Tales & Fables, Dale Chapman and Cody Clark have been refining their sound rather than departing from it. The result is a shapely set of songs that borrow from universal lore in order to reveal intimate truths.Led by Chapman’s warmly capacious voice and Clark’s classical techniques on a steel-string guitar, the pair prove they write songs like novelists write their books, using careful detail and well-shaped characters to tell even the heaviest of stories. Whatever the topic, the songs shine with restrained arrangements and entwined harmonies. This duo tells stories so well that there’s no need to cloak them with heavy-handed production or vocal processing. Instead, Haunted Like Human lets the humanity shine through.

LINE and Luscia Jane

An indie pop project unafraid to stretch and play with labels, LINE weaves singer-songwriter sensibilities with multi-genre arrangements. After playing with a full band for several years, vocalist/songwriter Maddie Batzli and guitarist/producer Charlie Koz are releasing The Woodside Sessions EP as an acoustic duo in September 2025. This new release centers vocals drawing comparison to Natalie Merchant, Enya, and Dolores O’Riordan (of the Cranberries,) and arrangements reminiscent of Bon Iver and Sufjan Stevens. As a queer songwriter, Batzli’s willingness to explore paradoxes extends to playful stage aesthetics and poignant lyrics raising emotional and philosophical questions, at once campy and achingly sincere. By sharing the vulnerability of holding multiple truths at once, LINE aims to invite listeners to live more deeply into their own experiences. From daring to acknowledge (and contain) multitudes comes much needed space for possibility, rare in a time when pessimism and hope can often feel like a binary.

Luscia Jane is a Chicago-based Forest Funk project. “Forest Funk” is a term which best describes our dynamic style that mixes jazz, psychedelic rock, soul, world, and folk styles with inspiration from nature in the form of musical arrangement, lyrical content, natural samples, and passion for environmental activism. Our groovy, danceable sound is rooted by unique, melodic bass lines and flowing drum beats, which balance with the ethereal piano passages and lush vocal harmonies that canopy our softer moments.

John Douglas Solo (of The Trashcan Sinatras) Lost In America Part 2

Following up from a busy and successful year of music prowess, involving the reissue and UK Top-40 charting of Trashcan Sinatras' debut album 'Cake', 33 years since its original release, John Douglas has stepped into the center stage, releasing his debut solo album supported by the second leg of a run of concerts around the UK and North America.

One of Scotland’s finest songwriters, and a founding member of Trashcan Sinatras, Douglas has opened a new chapter in his life with the release of his eponymous debut album, via Reveal Records. Presenting an intimate snapshot of the talent, charisma and depth of this celebrated songsmith. The album was recorded live at Kyoti Studio in Glasgow with producer Mark Freegard (New Model Army, Lush, The Breeders, Del Amitri, Marillion).

Featuring original material and new recordings of John's favourite Trashcan Sinatras' catalogue, and his own rendition of the Prefab Sprout classic ‘We Let The Stars Go’, this album reflects the genuineness of Douglas' music, also demonstrated in recent live performance videos for 'Lost', 'I'm Not The Fella' and 'Always', plus Trashcan Sinatras' classics 'Oranges & Apples', 'Leave Me Alone' and 'Weightlifting'.

Remi Goode + Madeleine Kelson
Nov

8:00 PM20:00

Remi Goode + Madeleine Kelson

Remi Goode is a trained classical guitarist and choral singer turned alternative folk singer-songwriter. When she first decided to put her voice and guitar together and write original music, she quickly developed a style that highlights her careful classical sensibilities, pure vocal quality, and the distinctive sound of a nylon-string guitar. With an affinity for small arrangements and modest production, Remi’s highest priority is lyricism. She writes with blunt honesty and introspection, searching for the root of the dynamics within a relationship or a deeper understanding of her own self-conception.

From an early age, Remi was greatly influenced by a handful of folk and alternative artists of the 80’s and 2000’s, such as Suzanne Vega, Regina Spektor, and Kathleen Edwards. For the last ten years, she’s been collaborating with childhood friend and singer-songwriter, Gabe Lehrer. Together, they arrange and perform intricate duos for two guitars and voices that showcase their intuitive musical understanding. In 2023, they toured the west coast as a duo before moving to Nashville.

Remi is currently rolling out her debut full-length album, Things I’ve Said Before. Balancing small, intimate, folk-forward tracks with full-band arrangements that push into new stylistic territories—half bedroom recordings years in the making and half live-capture studio recordings—Remi’s debut album will showcase her full range as an artist.

Madeleine Kelson is a Nashville based Americana artist. She pulls from a rich tradition of Folk, Country, and Americana, challenging its boundaries as a queer artist to represent the modern world. Madeleine spent her high school years in Chicago band, The Kelson Twins, playing venues including House of Blues and Thalia Hall, and landing a top Daytrotter Session with Paste Magazine. She later moved to Music City to pursue a solo career. Inspired by artists like Patty Griffin, Jason Isbell, andBrandi Carlile, her dynamic and down-to-earth storytelling and rich vocals are part of why NPR named her one 10 Nashville artists on the rise.

Once in Nashville, Madeleine won the 2017 International Bluegrass MusicAssociation’s (IBMA) Songwriter Showcase, and in 2018 released her acclaimed solo debut Siren, an introspective five-song EP with clean, melodic vocals backed by elegant countermelodies on violin. Praised by press for its genre-defying, sparse style and emotional richness, Siren earned Kelson comparisons to both Amos Lee and Gillian Welch.

In 2022, Madeleine released her debut, self-produced album, While I Was Away, on Olivia Records. Since its release she has gained praise from No Depression, been featured multiple times in NPR, and was a finalist in the prestigious Kerrville New Folk songwriting competition. Her queer country anthem, The Way I Do, became a viral TikTok hit with over 1.7 million views. Madeleine has been featured on Spotify editorial playlists including Queer as Folk, Emerging Americana, and Fresh Finds Folk. Her new EP, Where the Spirit Meets the Muscle, was released in February 2024.

Joe Armstrong

Joe Armstrong

A keen listener and conversationalist, Joe Armstrong can be laugh-out-loud funny, but he’s

dead serious about the music and social commentary reflected in his 2024 release Burn It

Down. In the spirit of Neil Young, Armstrong is equally comfortable entertaining a loud,

sweaty rock and roll audience with fist-raising anthems as he is laying bare the beautiful

vulnerability of the human experience with hushed acoustic guitars, catchy melodies, and

clever songcraft. Since relocating from his native Chicago to Los Angeles he has released

three albums, toured the world as a technician with a top-tier Emo band, and launched a

podcast showcasing fellow independent musicians called Independent’s Day, on which

he has hosted wide-ranging conversations with artists like Phoebe Bridgers, Sean Watkins

of Nickel Creek, Freedy Johnston, Dustbowl Revival, Steve Dawson of Dolly Varden,

Calexico co-founder John Convertino, Robbie Fulks, Hem, Mark Spencer of Son Volt,

Elizabeth Goodfellow of Iron and Wine, and many others. He has also worked the better

part of a decade in political media, giving him an inside perspective on our turbulent and

divisive times. Burn It Down is a logical and passionate evolution of those experiences that

leans on valuing uncomfortable reality over convenient illusions. “There is a dearth of

empathy in our society,” says Armstrong, “and Burn It Down serves as a call-to-arms in a

raging fight to stand up and make our voices heard and advocate for decency and

democracy," as well as a warning to those who would prefer to forsake our humanity and

the progress we've made towards a more equitable future.

Littlebird

Emerging from the heart of Chicago’s independent music scene, Littlebirds blends shimmering guitars, rich vocal harmonies, and restless rhythms into something tender, sharp, and unmistakably their own. With one foot in the echo of Midwest emo and the other in late-night indie rock confessionals, the band builds soundscapes that feel like open windows in a city apartment—hopeful, haunted, and full of life.

Formed by friends who met in DIY venues and back porches across the city, Littlebirds found common ground in the emotional gravity of bands like Big Thief and American Football, the melodic instincts of Wilco, and the raw energy pulsing through Chicago’s neighborhoods. Their songs often orbit themes of longing, change, and resilience—told through lyrics that feel like journal entries left out in the rain.

Their live shows are intimate, electric affairs—whether in packed clubs, smoky basements, or under string lights in backyards—where crowd and band blur into one shared experience. Littlebirds isn’t just a band; it’s a conversation, a catharsis, a community in motion.

With a more Spotify/Apple music releases on the way and a growing base of listeners drawn to their aching honesty and atmospheric warmth, Littlebirds is a band to watch, and—more importantly—a band to feel.

Katie Dahl and Emily White

Katie Dahl and Emily White

Clear-eyed and tough-minded, songwriter/playwright Katie Dahl is known for her smart songs, wry wit, and wise spirit. A small-town celebrity on the Wisconsin peninsula where her family has lived for 175 years, Katie is also an internationally touring, radio-charting artist who “delivers razor-sharp lyrics with a hearty, soulful voice” (American Songwriter). In live shows that are both courageously honest and devilishly funny, Katie dives deep into questions of land and love, family and body image, grief and joy. “In unsettled times,” says Peter Mulvey, “Katie Dahl brings us a grounded spirit.”

Emily White is a quiet force – a singer, songwriter and trained guitarist who stands out “conspicuously from the pack…with her hushed, preternaturally haunting vocal delivery” (Connect Savannah). Her potent images and dynamic melodies are things you hold onto, like (to quote one of her lyrics) “a stone in your pocket rubbed smooth.” Her fifth album Songs You Didn’t Know I Wrote About You (2023) is a collection of songs she wrote to people from all different points in her life—unread musical letters to friends, mentors, fellow songwriters, old loves, and maybe even you. Most importantly, none of the songs’ subjects know that she’s written about them. As a result, all thirteen tracks are unflinching and instantly relatable. Emotional realness, an ear for poetry, and a broad musical range define this record, as they have White’s entire career. More info at: www.emily-white.com
